When Life Gives You Fireworks…

When Life Gives You Fireworks…

You know what I’m talking about. A million new things happening all at once in a beautifully spectacular display before you that makes your jaw drop in awe. It’s been a while since I’ve updated you all on what’s what lately, but to be honest, it’s been a challenge just keeping track of it all! Since October, my life has been full speed ahead and I have been loving every single second of it. I’m writing this post to keep you all in the loop on the fireworks that have been going off in my life lately. Spoiler alert, it’s been quite a light show.

Living the Dream

Firework number one! Many of you may know that I have become a seasoned veteran at competing in the Miss Taunton Scholarship Pageant. Since I was a senior in high school, I have competed for the title a grand total of 4 times. Miss Taunton was my very first Miss America Organization preliminary and it sparked a passion in my heart for serving my community and the many incredible women who had won the title before me became the women that I aspired to be. This November, after nearly sixth months of stressing myself out over preparing the perfect talent selection, hitting the gym, and mock interviewing every free second that I had, it was finally my turn.

This title has truly become a force that motivates me every single day to put my best foot forward. I feel an incredible responsibility to make my city proud of their girl. In my own mind, and I think about this often, Miss Taunton is not even me. She does not shy away from meeting new people and striking up conversation. She does not compare herself to other women because she is 100% her own. She is unique and unafraid to be so. She has what it takes to face the difficult questions (onstage and off) and she will go to the ends of the earth make your day. Miss Taunton 2017 Brittany Churchill (Lorgeree) put it into words. “You don’t become Miss Taunton. Miss Taunton becomes you.” So this is what the inside of my mind has looked like for the past three months. I’m constantly trying to wrap my head around who Miss Taunton is and

how I can do my best to fill her shoes. She makes me brave and she has been an avenue for so many new and amazing things. There have been many highlights, but the most recent one was when my chicken, Twinkie made the front page of the Taunton Gazette. You can check that article out, here.

The If-It-Tastes-Good-Don’t-Eat-It Diet is Not a Real Thing.

And I can prove it. Right now, I am on week three of a six week lifestyle and fitness intensive series (sponsored by Ritual Sweat Society in Dartmouth. Click here to check them out!) that includes a mostly Paleo meal plan. I am currently fueling my body with dairy free, grain free, soy free, and mostly sugar free foods and since I started, the most common question I’ve gotten has been, “What’s left?!” I won’t go hugely into detail with how truly incredible this transformation series has been so far, BUT if you’re curious as to how I’m making it through my day to day happy, healthy, and never hungry, FOLLOW MY LIFESTYLE INSTAGRAM!

Moving Massachusetts Forward

Thrown into the mix of classes, work, appearances, workouts, and coffee drinking, I was also selected for an internship position at the Massachusetts State House working for the office of Senator Patrick O’Connor. I’m only on day three of this internship as of right now, but let me tell you. So far, so incredible. I started to realize shortly after winning the crown that I am a politics nerd like you wouldn’t believe. And it’s not even that I understand all of the ins and outs of America’s political systems just yet, but let me tell you this quick story. I had the opportunity to sing at Taunton’s Mayoral Inauguration and Swearing in Ceremonies of City Council, School, Zoning, Planning Board members, etc. I kid you not, my friends. Every time someone took an oath to serve the city of Taunton, I was literally holding back tears. It moves me in a very powerful way to see people who devote their time and energy to improving the lives of people in our gorgeous state! So it has been an honor and a privilege so far to dip my toes into the pool of politics. The water is hot, so I know I have a lot to learn.

So those have been the top biggest fireworks in the show so far! Not to mention my upcoming trips to Guatemala and Northern Ireland that are in the works and my preparation for the state pageant that is looming over my sparkly hat. But more to come on those things…

Moral of the story: When life gives you fireworks, make sure you give yourself a minute to take it all in.

xoxo Meg
